History
In September 1992, people with vision and dedication broke ground in downtown Kalamazoo for what was to become the area’s first center for the treatment of cancer. Physicians and administrators representing Borgess Health Alliance and Bronson Healthcare Group worked to build the West Michigan Cancer Center and ensure that the people of Southwest Michigan would have access to a different type of cancer treatment, one that merged the latest technologies and treatments with a philosophy of compassionate care.
Now a joint venture of Borgess Medical Center and Bronson Methodist Hospital, the Cancer Center stands alone as the region’s truly comprehensive cancer treatment facility. Four floors and 55,000 square feet house radiation therapy, medical oncology, neuro-oncology, a breast cancer clinic, laboratories, x-ray technology, pharmaceutical services, social and psychological counseling, nutrition counseling and key allied support services for patients and their families. In our 14 year history, West Michigan Cancer Center has averaged nearly 80,000 patient visits a year; our unique balance of assertive, state-of-the-art treatment and gentle, hands-on patient care has earned us the highest ratings possible from patients and their physicians.
