Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)

Image guided radiation therapy (IGRT) is a new technology designed to improve the precision and effectiveness of cancer treatments by localizing the tumor immediately before treatment delivery.

High resolution images are obtained prior to treatment and compared to the planned treatment.  The patient position is adjusted if necessary in order to deliver the treatment as planned.   This technique minimizes the volume of healthy tissue exposed to radiation during treatment.  The treatment machines below utilize this technology:
