Your smile and your understanding are key components of our healing process.

After over a decade of cancer treatment, one of the most important lessons we’ve learned is the value of a smile. Our volunteers are vital to the healing process here at the West Michigan Cancer Center. They greet visitors at the door, escort patients to their appointments, and hold hands to lend comfort and cheer. If that sounds like a rewarding way to spend a few hours, we have a job waiting for you.

Current Opportunities

Coffee Cart
A warm smile, a steady hand, and the ability to push a cart full of coffee and cookies are skills required for this job. They prepare the coffee and fill the cart, then share with patients and their loved ones.

Gardening
Helping to keep our grounds beautiful for all to enjoy is a way that a green thumb or a strong back can be put to use.

Greeters
Responsibility is to give each client that enters the door of the Cancer Center a warm personal greeting and direct them to the appropriate area. They represent the positive caring environment of the Center.

Patient to Patient
Patients can request to have a former patient who had a similar diagnosis as theirs, call them, to share similar experiences, answer questions, listen and just be there for them as needs arise.

Personal Coaches
They have had direct experience with cancer, either as a patient themselves, or as a family member or friend who has had the experience of supporting a loved one during cancer care. Coaches are scheduled to meet with all new Patients at the Cancer Center on their first three treatment days. Coaches are prepared to answer questions, listen, connect the patient with educational information and resources and share their own personal experiences.

Special Projects
The Center has many opportunities for you to share your talents. Collating materials, filling booklets and others.
