June 11, 2020

Letters were mailed to our hematology or medical oncology patients in early June with new details about the transition of medical oncology services to our partner hospitals, Ascension Borgess and Bronson, in 2021. We want to help patients plan ahead for changes coming to medical oncology services they receive from us.

Bronson Healthcare’s new cancer center will be located at 805 John Street in downtown Kalamazoo and is set to open in January 2021. Ascension Borgess is building a new cancer center on South Drake Road in Kalamazoo, a quarter-mile south of the Stadium Drive intersection and directly across from the Asylum Lake Preserve.  It is scheduled to open in July 2021.  Until these dates, WMCC will continue to provide medical oncology care.

The following is a list of hematology/medical oncology providers, aligned by hospital system:

Ascension Borgess: Physicians--Dr. Muhammad Hameed, Dr. Hassan Issa, Dr. Iman Mohamed & Dr. Hemasri Tokala. Advanced Practice Providers--Becky Jones, Amanda Mitchell & Jill Noack.

Bronson Healthcare: Physicians--Dr. Dustin Bivins, Dr. Sunil Nagpal, Dr. Mohammad Omaira, Dr. Manish Thakur & Dr. Muhammad Usman. Advanced Practice Providers–Chelsea Ashcraft, Kelly Smith, Mike Francisco & Steve Stone.

Patients can be rest assured that we’re doing everything possible to avoid any disruption of their treatment plan. While medical oncology services are moving to the hospitals, there are no changes occurring in our radiation, gynecologic and surgical oncology practices. If you receive any of these services, you will continue to be seen at WMCC, located at 200 North Park Street in Kalamazoo.

If you are a patient and have any questions regarding the medical oncology transition, please call our confidential voicemail line at 269-384-8623 and leave a message with your first and last name, your date of birth, your physician’s name and a phone number where you can be reached.  A member of our clinical staff will return your call within two business days.
