The YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo is a national finalist for LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a grant-funded program designed to help cancer survivors strengthen themselves physically and emotionally as they transition from treatment back to everyday life.  An online voting campaign will determine which YMCA locations receive grants to implement the small group program. 43 ‘Ys’ have been selected to participate in the online campaign with the top 30 vote getters receiving grants.

The West Michigan Cancer Center is a partner of the YMCA and supports its effort to bring this important program to the Kalamazoo area.  We ask you to join us by casting a vote online for our ‘Y’ and inviting your family members and friends to do the same to bring LIVESTRONG at the YMCA to our community. Voting is underway and lasts just two weeks.

If selected, the YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo will use the awarded funds to train additional Y staff to enhance the Cancer Survivorship program that began this past fall. Cancer survivors meet twice a week during a 7-week session to help focus on strength and endurance, including the core and introduce them to additional exercise.

Voting ends on March 23, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. CST. So cast your vote today! Spread the word on Facebook and Twitter, too!  LIVESTRONG allows one vote per email address. Let’s rally our support and bring this beneficial program for cancer survivors to Kalamazoo!
