WMCC Launches ‘Hope Harvest’ to Provide Free Organic Produce All Summer Long

KALAMAZOO, MI — West Michigan Cancer Center is proud to announce the launch of Hope Harvest, a reimagined fresh-produce program designed to make healthy eating more accessible to patients and visitors throughout the summer and early fall.

Running weekly from June 10 through October 7, Hope Harvest will offer complimentary organic vegetables every Wednesday at the cancer center. Generous donors and a partnership with Long Valley Farm, a local farm providing seasonal, organically grown produce, make the program possible.

Unlike previous versions of the program, Hope Harvest does not require advance registration and is open to all current patients during the 18-week period. Volunteers will host a welcoming produce table each Wednesday, creating a mini farm-stand experience inside the center. Vegetables will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and distributed in reusable bags.

Each week will feature a rotating selection of fresh vegetables along with simple recipe cards designed to make preparing nutritious meals easy and approachable.

“Hope Harvest reflects our belief that healing and prevention extend beyond clinical care,” said Ashleigh Starr, WMCC registered dietitian. “By increasing access to fresh fruits and vegetables, we’re supporting overall wellness and empowering our community to make nourishing choices.”

Research consistently shows that diets rich in fruits and vegetables support overall health and may help reduce cancer risk. Hope Harvest aligns with the center’s mission to provide comprehensive care that addresses both treatment and long-term wellness.

Hope Harvest will be available every Wednesday from June 10 through October 7 at West Michigan Cancer Center. For more information, visit: wmcc.org/hopeharvest.
