Simon A. Brown, MD

Simon A. Brown, MD, FACRO, is a board-certified radiation oncologist at West Michigan Cancer Center (WMCC).

Dr. Brown joined WMCC in 2022 following three years in Springfield, Illinois, where he served as a radiation oncologist and Assistant Professor at Southern Illinois University.

Dr. Brown earned his Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he was also a running back for the Brown football team and played bass trombone in the jazz band. He completed his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where he managed a non-profit clinic providing care to underserved populations, served as a physician recruiter, and published articles on health disparities.

Following medical school, Dr. Brown completed a surgical internship and radiation oncology residency at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. During his residency, he served as physician liaison, clinical instructor, and chief resident. Additionally, Dr. Brown authored book chapters on radiation treatment for benign diseases, contributing to leading textbooks in radiation oncology. In 2017, he was selected as a clinical research fellow through a joint initiative of the European Society of Radiation Oncology (ESTRO) and the American Association for Cancer Research, conducting research in the Netherlands.

Dr. Brown holds dual board certifications in Radiation Oncology and Medical Quality (American Board of Medical Quality). He is an active member of the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO), serving as Chair of the ACRO New Practitioner Committee in 2024. In 2025, he was awarded Fellow designation by ACRO, one of the organization’s highest honors, recognizing dedicated service and significant contributions to the field. Additionally, Dr. Brown has developed multiple clinical trials and authored editorials published in JAMA Oncology.

Dr. Brown has extensive training and expertise in advanced radiation techniques, including 3D conformal radiation therapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT/VMAT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), electron therapy for superficial lesions, and brachytherapy. He treats all cancer types, with particular specialization in gastrointestinal (GI) and genitourinary (GU) malignancies.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Brown serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at Western Michigan University, where he mentors medical students, actively contributes to medical education, and serves on the Medical Student Performance Committee.

Known for his commitment to patient-centered care, Dr. Brown consistently achieves high patient satisfaction scores. In 2021, he ranked nationally within the top 10% of providers on the Press Ganey Patient Experience Report, achieving an overall care provider rating in the 96th percentile. Dr. Brown is excited to continue collaborating to provide multidisciplinary, high-quality cancer care to patients in Southwest Michigan.
