Aeryn Kangas-Dick, MD

Aeryn Kangas-Dick, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon and surgical oncologist specializing in the treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the GI tract at WMCC.

Dr. Kangas-Dick earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT, and completed her medical education at St. George’s University in Grenada. She went on to complete a general surgery residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. During her training, she pursued two specialized fellowships: a clinical research fellowship in the Division of Surgical Oncology at Rutgers Cancer Institute in New Brunswick, NJ, and a fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY. Her dedication to education and mentorship was recognized with the Golden Apple Award for Surgical Teaching at Maimonides and a nomination for the Siegel Award for Excellence in Teaching at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Her clinical expertise spans a wide array of disease sites, with particular focus on hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery, gastric surgery, and gastrointestinal surgery. She brings unique experience to Kalamazoo in robotic (minimally invasive) esophagectomy. Dr. Kangas-Dick also performs surgery and follow-up for patients with melanoma. Her research interests include surgical outcomes, tumor genetics and immunology, healthcare disparities, and minimally invasive techniques for complex oncologic procedures.

In addition to her surgical oncology role at WMCC, Dr. Kangas-Dick is an assistant professor of surgery at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine in Kalamazoo.
