What is WMCC’s eConsult program?

West Michigan Cancer Center’s eConsult program expands patients’ access to subspecialty gynecologic oncologists’ recommendations without requiring an in-person referral unless necessary.

To refer a patient case, information is simply uploaded into a secure cloud-based platform for review. The review process is “asynchronous,” meaning that information can be uploaded whenever convenient (typically 5 – 10 minutes), and a West Michigan Cancer Center gynecologic oncologist will review and make recommendations within 2 business days.

Why eConsult?

Upload Your Patient’s Case Information

No more mailing or faxing. All files are electronically added to the patient’s case.

Sharing of Case with Gynecologic Oncologist

The complete patient case will be presented to a gynecologic oncologist for review and recommendations.

Secure Cloud Storage of Clinical Files

Records and the completed consult are always available to requesting clinicians.

Asynchronous Review

Correspond with a sub-specialist on your own schedule.

How it Works

  1. Enter the Purview virtual platform: You will enter basic patient information, details about the patient’s diagnosis, existing or prior treatment, and specific questions you would like addressed, along with any other information you deem relevant.

  2. Upload Case Information: Now, you or a clinical member of your practice can upload images or scanned records as needed. Once information has been uploaded, you will receive a confirmation email. Technical support is available 24/7. See contact information below.

  3. Submit Consult and Receive Recommendations: A WMCC gynecologic oncologist will review your questions and the patient’s information within 2 business days. Recommendations will be sent back to you as soon as they are complete. If you have additional questions, these can be sent to the gynecologic oncologist electronically, or can be addressed via live video chat if you prefer. Finally, you will be sent a short experience survey so we can continue to improve the consultation process.

FAQs

What kind of cases can I submit for review?

Any case on which it would be helpful to have the input of a gynecologic oncologist! Common questions involve review of imaging to assist with risk assessment for malignancy; questions regarding ongoing management of patients with cancer,  including chemotherapy questions; and any case where a question may not require in-person evaluation.

What does asynchronous mean?

Asynchronous case review means that uploaded case information and questions will be stored and forwarded to a gynecologic oncologist for review. Recommendations will be returned to you by email within 2 business days.

Who will provide the review?

Cases will be reviewed by either Dr. David Shalowitz, MD, MSHP or Dr. Anna Hoekstra, MD, MPH, West Michigan Cancer Center’s board-certified gynecologic oncologists.
